Wife got extremely lucky and drew the san juan elk ridge rifle tag in the random draw. Looking to pick some of your brains who have experience in this unit either while elk hunting or being on a deer hunt. This is basically once in a lifetime hunt for her and chances of drawing it again are 0

I have been on that unit many times. I always try for the archery or muzzleloader tag. There are big dear all over the top during those seasons. Once they move down it becomes a much harder hunt. There are huge deer there. Unless you have a ton of time to scout the week before season, you might want to consider a guide. Feel free to PM me I can help with more info.
