Hey everyone, today is the anniversary of the "Blackhawk Down" crashes and firefights in Somalia. The links I am posting is to a short video which includes direct accounts of Jeff Struecker, a retired Army Chaplain who was an enlisted Ranger IN this hell. I have met Jeff several times and is an inspiring man. Also, please take time to remember/pray for SFC Shugart and MSG Gordon who selflessly gave their all trying to protect their brethren.

wow, just watched the video, truly humbling. All I can say is, wow now that's bravery. And wow are we lucky to have what we have here in the good ol US of A.

Back in 2004, I got to meet the blackhawk pilot that Shugart and Gordon saved the day they gave their lives. The guy's name is Michael Durant. Coincidently, My company commander at the time was a machine gunner in the Ranger company in Somalia, and we bumped into the guy as he was signing books at the PX on Fort Hood. It was quite a reunion for them, and I was awed at some of the stuff they were talking about. I was a second lieutentant about to leave for combat for the first time, and to hear their stories and see the brotherhood they had from over 10 years earlier was really humbling.

Truly a sad time for the US Army, all the fighting men involved are heroes, whether they came out the other side or not, a battle that was thrust onto those young men with overwhelming odds, the ones still with us can stand proud, and we should all remember the ones that didn't make it.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them,
Lest we forget.

A sad anniversary, but also a day when those soldiers stuck together and fought like hell.
