I've read/heard the theories.

The situation still seems to be fluid. I'm sure you read that steel tariffs were a horrible idea like I did. Yet, Coosa Steel in Georgia disagrees. Just one example that implies what people "knew" to be true might not be. It was supposed to be bad for farmers, but that's not what is happening.

There are reason why people think tariffs are a good idea just like there are people who say the opposite. The truth seems to be tariffs can be a positive or negative depending on the industry and situation.

Go figure ... no absolutes.

I haven't really heard of any apolgists. I think people are just so skeptical of the news outlets these days that many don't believe what they're seeing. I'm down to have a public hanging for any person that abuses children, republican/democrat/billionaire/broke ass...It doesn't matter to me!
