Rain pants vs gaiters?

i just picked the gaitors in the poll but i carry a poncho in my pack that goes down to my knees if it rains or snows hard or sideways.

Or go kiwi style with 70s era shorts and gaiters.

Personally, I would have both. However, instead of just the rain pants, I would have a rain set just in case. If the forecast indicates intermittent rain, then I would have the rain gaiters in the pack or wearing them.
