Putting up some new hunting blinds.

Took longer than I expected, and an extra trip, but got a couple hunting blinds put up on my new place this weekend.

They actually loaded up and rode really nice.



First one was the bigger one but it was only going on an 8’ stand. Tractor can lift 8’6” so thought we were golden. But we decided to put it on a little hill so the tractor couldn’t really reach high enough since it was slightly lower than the blind.

Took some extra effort but we got it set, but everything took longer than expected so we had to leave it unfinished (no stairs and not anchored).



Somehow talked a friend into helping me today get this one finished and set up the other one that is going on a 10’ stand.

Tractor can only lift 8’6” so this was going to take some ingenuity.

First tilted it as a big angle to get the first leg in.



We were actually able to get the first 3 legs in so that made it quite a bit less sketchy than I was expecting.



Actually getting to use my new excavator. It can lift higher than 10’!



A little sketchy at first. The blind was leaning against the excavator bucket.



Ended up lifting it with the tip of the tractor’s forks to get it away from the excavator bucket and then put it into “catch in case of disaster mode”.



Got it set! All the machines did their part.



Kid approved. They were great helpers.

Made a quick little water hole behind the new blind.




Haven’t gotten it filled yet though. I have other water on the place but the thought is that the mature bucks will prefer the one with a little cover.

Those Chingons are nice blinds. I bought one last year and have been happy with it.

Got back out there this weekend and finished setting everything up for the most part. Got the water hole filled cleaned and filled.

Got the feeder moved to within bow range of where I ended up setting the new blind. Pulling and pounding T Posts in 103 degree heat index reminded me that I really am 58 years old. Tractor sure does help though!

Put hog panels around the new water hole to keep cows and feral hogs out. I have to go over a big berm with very loose sand that I've never had the guts to try to pull the trailer over (you need to be in 4x4 just to get the truck over it) so I offloaded the panels onto my shredder to haul them back to the back of the property right at 1 mile. It actually worked pretty well.

Still working on getting things ready for the containers. Have a guy coming today hopefully to rework the pad site and pack it in and get it wide enough. Running a sprinkler on in since Saturday afternoon. This picture was after I had been running it for 4 hours. Had the guy leasing my place for cows move it for me when he was checking his cows yesterday evening.



And a beautiful West Texas Sunset on a hard day of work. Hoping to have everything in place for rifle season at least.

Uploaded a YouTube short of the TEMCo drill pump to start filling the water hole.

I made 2 trips with the 275g tote filled up about 150-175 gallons. Took about 20 minutes to fill the tote and less than 5 to empty it. Had to cut a bigger hole in the top of the tank to get the pump to the very bottom of the tank.
