Looking for recommendations on a processor around Chama for my upcoming cow elk hunt. I have found Carnivores on google as well as some in Pagosa Springs. Just looking for first hand experiences with any. I will be driving back toward OK as well, I can do it back home or use my guy here but thought it might be easier to get it done while we are there. Thanks

I used Carnivores in 2016 when they first opened. It's been a minute, but back then we took 2 bulls to them and they had 'em done in 48 hours and frozen to take home. Didn't get anything special, just steaks, roasts and burger. Worked out well.

I have used Carnivore's in Chama, and Cole's in Pagosa Springs. My problem is I drive to Chama then bring the processed meat home in ice chests packed with dry ice. I have to wait for the meat to be processed. Triny Vigil at Carnivore's no longer does any "rush" jobs and it can take up to two weeks to process your meat. He wants to vacuum pack everything (additional $$), then ship it to you (more $$). I used him once when he first opened but haven't been able to get him to do it after that since he has been too busy. I would use him because I stay in Chama before and after my hunt, but he is always backed up. His number is (505) 929-3133.
Coles Processing in Pagosa is a lot easier to deal with. Lindsay will take your elk if she has room and will do a rush job for $100. Processing is first class, wrapped in clear plastic wrap, then wrapped in white freezer paper. It is marked with the hunter's name, what is in the package, and the date. The meat is frozen solid when I pick it up. She is very easy to talk to and I have used her the last 3 years. Hopefully I will bring her another bull in October when I hunt in Chromo this year. Their number is (970) 264-2426.
Depending on which way you are heading when you leave, there is also a processor in Tierra Amarilla south of Chama. It is The Dam Meat Processing at El Vado Lake. I haven't used them but the owner of the Motel I stay at uses them regularly and highly recommends them. Their number is (575) 208-1733.

Awesome thanks! I have a cow tag on the Jic again so I am hoping I can fill it the first day and then spend the rest of the week getting it processed and doing some exploring with the girlfriend.

I also remember "The Buck Stops Here" in Pagosa Springs. Never used them, but they do a lot of advertising for processing. We eat there when up that way, great burgers and some brewskis. Across the highway from WalMart down about 1/2 mile. Their # is (970) 731-3535.

Check out the waterfalls in the Pagosa area. Most are less than a mile walk from their respective parking area. Where are you staying? I remember the Jicarilla used to have a Best Western, but don't think it is open (we used to make our 'donation' at the Wild Horse casino there).

The new hotel is open in Dulce, I want to say around $200 a night. I rented an airbnb in Chama though.

They did change the name. Here is the link for the hotel and restuarant.
