Preseason scouting

I've spent hours scouting, looking for a mature buck this season. It's been a daunting task, moving from the front yard to the side yard, almost stepping on them.

Here's the Montana standard forkie. I suppose he'd fill the freezer, but he'd be a last day buck for me:

Here's the guy that showed up today. Hope he makes it through the season until I can get up there and set up camp. He's not symmetrical, but for the district, it's not a bad buck.

I don't seem to see as many large bucks as I did back in 2008 - 2010. We do seem to have more this year than in years past, but that could be the apricot tree that's going gonzo this year. ;)
