Are the polymer tips used on some of today's bullets suitable for use on bullets from 30 or more years ago? I was thinking of some of Sierra's GameKing bullets which have a small hollow point. Anyone know where to buy the tips from? I believe that Hammer offers some tipped bullets, but actually includes the tips and a little device to "install" them with so that you can DIY.

True, but not the .25 cal TGKs. I have a bunch of 90 grain gamekings that I might use if they shoot in my .25 x .284 with a 12 twist barrel. If I draw tags.
They offer a 110 grain TGK and a 90 grain tipped BlitzKing in 25 cal. bullets.

I think you're going to have trouble consistently inserting the polymer plug. Are you going to bore out the lead nose?

The 95gr. Hammer HHTs are absolute hellfire in my .257Ackley and they're suitable for a slow twist. 3218fps in a 21inch barrel, you'd probably be north of 3400 in a .25-.284.

The 90 grain HPBT are already "bored" from how they are pointed up and don't have a lead tip. I was looking at the 81 grain stone hammer as it's the only .25 cal suitable for a slow twist. The site says you need 10 twist for the 95 HHTs altho my 12 twist 26 inch barrel shoots Sierra 120 grain spitzers good enough. I've got lots of Sierra 90 gr HPBT from the past and am loathe to buy any more bullets. Tipping isn't essential, but just something I would try if I could.

Sure, that makes sense. Ballparking you at 3100fps you'd be right on the cusp of stability using Berger's twist rate calculator. If you're north of 3200, you'd probably be able to get away with the 95gr. HHT.

Not trying to belabor the point since it sounds like you're set with your HPBTs, but don't hesitate to call Steve at Hammer. He's always happy to answer technical questions.

The Barnes 80 gr TTSX shoot well, but I'm nearly out of those so I'd stick with the 81 gr stonehammer. If I don't draw any lope tags it's sorta moot.

You may be able to buy tips from Cutting Edge Bullets. I think you can buy them separately.

But you may need to borr out the nose of the bullet to get them to fit.

It doesn't seem like they have anything in .25 caliber suitable for a 12 twist barrel. I have a lot of crap to shoot up so I'm loathe to buy any more stuff. I'll see what Sierra has to say.

I thought you were just wanting the tips to insert in the Sierra's that you have.

Heck, my 25 caliber rifles are all 1:10, and Cutting Edge doesn't have anything that I want to shoot in them.

I do, but I don't think that Cutting Edge tips will fit as is. I'm hoping Sierra might send me a few gratis, but if their bullets don't shoot with the loads I have it won't matter. To me the tips are just decoration anyway.
