Please help me choose hunting dates for Montana elk hunt

Hello Forum,

I'll be archery hunting elk in the Sapphires/Rock Creek area this September for the first time! I have vacation from the 14th to the 26th and within these days I have 7 days to hunt. 2 of those days will be dedicated to driving most of the day. I was thinking of leaving Sunday the 18th and coming home Saturday the 24th, giving me 5 solid days of midweek hunting. Does this sound like a reasonable set of dates to all of you far more experienced elk hunters?

Why not leave Friday after work, drive as far as safely get get there Saturday and gain a day + of hunting!

Your timing is right, but personally I would beg, borrow, or steal to leave the 14th and get back the 26th. More is always better when it comes to archery hunting elk.
