I picked up a leftover buck tag in 87 today... pretty stoked to snag a 4 point tag on leftover day. Looking at On X it appears there is a small amount of public land, but not a lot. There is even less land where CPW shows pronghorn concentration.

For those that have hunted this area any advice your willing to give would be helpful. I have only knocked on doors once or twice and I am not really familiar with asking for hunting permission... is this gonna be necessary in this area?

Feel free to PM me if you want.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure that I'd really feel obligated to knock on doors out in that unit. Only a couple real big landowners out there in among the grasslands. I always saw goats on the national grasslands. I was usually only out there during goat season for target practice. There are orange pumpkins everywhere! Lots of pressure but lots of animals. Tons of people were hauling a$$ around in their pickups glassing from the truck after all the opening shots rang out through into the afternoon. I'll shoot you a PM with one more idea.

Thanks for the tips. Sounds like plenty of grasslands to hunt.

well i wanted that tag as a 3rd option but server freeze up wrecked my chances. Have not hunted there or I would help with info.

congrats. got a 7 pref point tag last year for “free” so not complaining.

You grabbed an 87 lope tag? You lucky S.O.B. 87 has a ton of pronghorn, and public land. I would not shoot the first buck you see, but wouldn't hold out for a booner. Lots of decent bucks out there. There's some big bucks, but they are hard to find. Get off the road just a bit, and you can glass a lot of land that you can't see from the road. I would actually go with you if you wanted someone to tag a long.

I misspoke. I got 88 leftover, not 87. I was going to chose 87 and it sold out so I got a license in 88. Still Pawnee Grasslands... sorry I misspoke, I had been up very early to snag that tag at a license agent.

88 is even better IMO. More public land. Took a ML doe there last year. Congrats

I will be in unit 88 next week with bow in hand. I've heard that some of the land I have hunted in the past has been leased up by outfitters.
