Pack workouts

I just put some something light at the bottom of my pack. Stick the dumbbell in the center resting on that and wrap it with a coat or fabric to keep it from moving. Keeping the weight distributed higher in the pack is key.

On a side note, you don't need to beat yourself up with ridiculous pack weights and stupid hard workouts. There is a much more enjoyable way to get & stay in shape. Most of the benefits from rucking are just getting your body efficient with movement under load. If your weight is more than you can handle with good form you'll just develop bad movement patterns and get injured.
Very true. I’m doing the 50+ workouts on MTNTough so trying to find good ways to get various pack weights as I ramp up.

Have any of you used a weight vest? There is a couple in the workout room at the office. Easy to adjust weight and weight is distributed very evenly. But certainly rides different than a pack and doesn’t cinch down well.

We use sand bags of different sizes wrapped in plastic and duct tape. We load them in the pack with a blanket or something if needed... The EXO guys have talked about using weighted blankets to fill their packs... We have a few weight vest and use them for somethings but not as much as sand bags in the pack.. the vest are handy if you want an extra 20-40 pound for your "pack in-pack out" training or for the extra when doing step ups or step downs..

The vest would probably help with overall fitness.

For me, carrying the weight is easy. Getting your hips & shoulders used to the weight riding there is what matters most.

I use a 50lb sandbag. Between that, some misc shit left in my pack and water, I'm usually hovering right around 65 or so pounds for the pack.

Pack your pack with the things you will have on your hunt, if you want to add weight fill up all your water sources. You will know how things fit inside your pack have and have idea of how your loads should be packed. Try and do big hikes with this load through the year. ( not just the week before the season) Packing out and animal is gonna suck but always being in shape helps. A strong core maintained throughout the year and muscles conditioned to moving with weight are going to prepare you for the glorious pack out.
