I have a pair of Outdoor Research Crocodile gaiters I have been wearing lately. Mostly because the ladies say it drives them wild.

In any event, the little tab that goes closest to the lace hook separated from the Velcro. Probably not a big deal but I kinda like my stuff to be in good working order so I wrote to them about it.

7 business days later and they want me to confirm size and color…and just like that I have a new pair coming my way.

Pretty awesome in my book. I’ll continue to look at them for gear.

Everything I've owned or used in the military from OR has been great quality. Every pair of gloves I own are made by OR. The only issue I've had was the Superstrand hoodie I bought a few years ago was about as thin as paper and was not warm at all but other than that good stuff.

Best gaitors out there. And one hell of a warranty. I’ve been using them for close to twenty years. Solid rain gear too.

I had a pair for about a decade or so. They were no longer waterproof and my pants were getting wet. IIRC I didn't have the original receipt and they were debating honoring the warranty. I stated I was just going to purchase a new pair from Kuiu and just like that the had a new pair in the mail within a day. I like them. I will look at T&K before next purchase as they are made in US, but I don't have any complaints about those gaiters, even with having to use leverage to get them to honor the warranty I'm used to that nowadays lol. I did end up ordering the Kuiu ones and didn't like them as much. I wish they would find something better than velcro as it sometimes catches on my merino, maybe a magnetic strip would work, but once on those gaiters are on they sure take a beating.

I've had good luck with their gear, still employee owned I believe. I was planning to get a new mid weight rain jacket and seems like bang for the buck wise, hunting companies just can't compete with OR for what your getting.

Interesting, the exact same thing happened to my OR gaiters, but I haven't warrantied them yet. After this hunting season I will. I had a ten year old rain jacket that the zipper broke on. A week later they sent me a brand new one. Pretty sweet.

They don't just warranty anything, it has to be a defect. They also make you send the defective product back if I recall correctly.
For mine they wanted me to draw a big X in permanent marker on the gaiters, both left and right. Perhaps to prevent repeat warranty claims?

How are you guys justifying using a warranty on 10 yr old gear?

On a separate note, I love OR and Rab. Both outstanding value.
I think my gaiters were only a few years old, maybe 20 miles on them? In otherwise great condition, the tab that secures the velcro just came loose. I felt OK about seeing what they could do for me. I agree, at some point age plays a factor and I'd definitely take that into consideration before asking for a warranty claim.

So is a zipper failure on an 8 yr old pair of pants a defect?

I get it if it hasn't been used much, but I'd wager greater than 50% of their warranty claims are for gear that is wore out vs a true defect.

They warrantied my 10 year jacket that had a zipper failure. Can't hurt to try!
