Old truck appreciation (and high mileage)

A good friend found this 68 Chevy short stepside last week. Has a 350/auto conversion & aftermarket a/c, and a varnished bed floor. Runs & sounds good. He’s gonna replace some rusted rocker panels and tighten the window seals & repaint the clear coated silver with a metal flake.

318k is a good run for a set of head gaskets.
Actually about 210k. I bought with 108k and a new Goodwrench long block in it.

Carbon copy of my favorite work truck I ever used back in the day. 350 with a 5 speed manual, GMC 2500. I would have bought it in a second if it was offered. Bounced that thing all over central Montana.

That generation of Chevy/GMC trucks were tough to beat. I had two. These are the next trucks that will start to go up in value. I look at the trend with the square body trucks. Gonna keep my 86 until the kid gets it. mtmuley

Every once in awhile a good one pops up around here. But yes, spendy. I'd rather have one than any of the new offerings though. I'll drive my 2003 GMC the rest of my life I hope. mtmuley

Hard to take that my 2017 is now almost ten years old. It was supposed to be my last truck. I take good care of it except for the USFS pinstriping.
I need the GMT-400 back in action to do the dirty jobs.

2001 dodge 2500 Cummins 5spd. 65mph is about as fast as you are going to go. Only 108k on it. AC doesn’t work. Loud enough in the cab you are going to struggle carrying on a conversation. Not the prettiest but pulls great.

When I built our house I saved and didn't have AC installed. I planned for it if it ever had to happen. The Boss said make it happen. No money saved. mtmuley

97' 7.3L Powersmoker here, 250K. I updated to a camper on the back this year. In the last 12 months I've driven 6 hrs to eastern MT 4-5 times, twice to CO and to Tucson and back (all from Helena). No AC cause I'm too cheap to fix it. I do all the work on it, so it's pretty cheap to maintain. I tell everyone I am driving this truck until one of us dies, whoever comes first.

Not high mileage but it is a 2015. 84,000k bought it new and keep it out of the wisco salt. Ram 1500 tradesman

I used to own a beautiful 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500, 4.8L V8, 2WD. Awesome truck!! The guys at the deer camp deemed it "the grocery getter" because I couldn't/wouldn't take it off road up the trails. 209,000 miles and it finally said, "enough".
