So the "old man, old cartridge, old elk" thread got me thinking at same age at 75, back fusion surgery, knee surgery in last 12 months, HTH do I keep hunting without banking upon family and friends? I added a winch to bed of my truck plus a game cart years ago but other geezers must have some great "tools" to use? I am ordering a drill 1500 lb. winch as added help too.

So whatcha got geezers?

Posted this last year after back surgery.

Drill winch I am looking at:

I got a winch very similar. It works great for pulling an outboard of a boat. I was impressed.

3000' of mule tape seems like it would be handy.

I've shot a few matches with a guy who's a lineman and brings mule tape to help drag critters. I forget what else he used it in conjunction with but it sounded slick.

The only old geezer I hunt with has the best available tools for the job! He had a pretty daughter marry a hunter (me) and made babies until he had a son.

Now he's got a couple younger dudes to retrieve his deer for him... I don't think he's hauled a single deer out of the bush with me around.

I don't do this, because if it's on a cart I just use the cart to roll it into the bed, but ....supposedly this works.
Sheet of plywood as a ramp. Pulley in the bed of the truck up near the bed. Run the rope from the deer, through the pulley, then to a tree. Drive forward.

I put a length of channel strut across the front of my pickup box and put two eye bolts in, to attach a Warn ATV recovery winch. Then all I need to winch a full sized elk into the back of the truck, is to put my ATV ramp down to the elk, wrap the cable around the elk and pull it up the ramp with the winch. One person can load a whole elk by themselves with this method…
