I have an 05 Silverado that's blower stopped working. It doesn't work on any speed. First I tried tapping it to get it to kick on with no luck. I tested for power coming out of the resistor, and it has power on speeds 1-4, but no power on speed 5, which is the top speed for the blower. What would I need to replace to fix this? Is the resistor bad? Or is it something else?

I'm not a mechanic, but just replaced the blower motor resistor in my daughters car with the same symptoms. It fixed the problem. mtmuley

First test the switch if it is good run a hot jumper to blower to verify operation. If they check out throw a resistor pack in and go from there.

Have you tried a hammer on it? I bet that would do the trick. Key is a forceful, yet nuanced strike on a reinforced corner so as not to damage the golbins inside.

Or try the resistor route.

I know the switch works because it shuts off and sends power to the resistor. I used a test light and the switch seems to work fine, it sends power to everything except speed 5.

I tried hitting it, it didn't turn on. I actually have it out it just takes a half a turn to take it out. I'll try a hot wire to it and see how that goes thanks guys.

The speed switch can have a bad contact on high speed. a lot of times high speed doesn't even go through the resistor pack it can go straight from switch to motor depending on make /model

Well the blower motor worked fine when I wired it directly to a battery. The blower motor only has one connection and does not have speed 5 going directly to it, it must go trough the resistor. As I said with a test light out of the resistor the connection that connect to the blower when you turn the switch 1-4 lights up, but when you turn it to 5 it turns the test light off. I guess I don't get why if it's sending power to the blower on speeds 1-4 why it is not turning on at all.

Yep, on my truck when the resistor went bad it only worked on high setting.

This is the usual symptom of a bad resistor pack.

Oneye if you have power coming out of the resistor pack and at the wire to the motor you need a multimeter. it's very possible to light up a test light but not be able to run a motor. You need to verify polarity and voltage of the power you are receiving and verify proper ground of the motor itself.

I'm pretty sure it's the resistor. When I jiggle the wire going into it the blower will kick on. I going to replace it and the wiring harness going into it. Hope then it runs smooth for a long time.

I have ran into bad ground wire issues on those chevys,,,try jumping the ground circuit at fan blower housing to a good ground,,also recheck all your fuses,,cant remember for sure, depends on year and model but it may have a separate fuse for high?I ran into that years ago but cant remember what truck it was?hope that helps,,let me know ?
