Off season training

Are you doing any land marks as well?
Yah probably more land now, once it heats up then I do more water. I feel it's better spent on water. Sometimes she has a tough time with marking how far birds actually are on bigger water when she's eye level and there's waves. I suspect most dogs do though especially with ducks vs geese (smaller body).

Started working on the barn, lots of help. Every other day or so we start down in the bottom, work our way up, circle wide of the elk. Not quite nesting season for Huns/ chukar yet but I try to avoid the areas they normally nest in. But occasionally we get a point. Mainly keeping me in shape, let them work the short grass and remind them I like to see lots of quartering action. Snowing this morning so we won’t go, the elk will be where I want to be.
The bulls mostly seem to be carrying their antlers but we should start finding sheds pretty soon.

How do you go about this? Set up a course?
In a group setting, yes it’s like a course. We setup to run multiple dogs through different categories (tracking, search, pointing, blinds, duck search and retrieving) evaluating each and sending them home with some homework.

Trying to get Ella ready for VJP, my first time.
Hunting jack rabbits another time or two before test.

Almost every day get out for some retrieving, well do some place work and I'll hide bumpers for her to search for, some jack rabbit drags here and there.

I would like to forcefetch at some point after VJP and before next hunting season.

Heck yeah. Very good looking pup you have. Where will you be testing?

Yup that's it! That's awesome, I'm not even sure what the CE seminar is. Is that part of the test day/instructional for the test or something extra?

Thats great. I'm sure we'll bump into each other at some point, I don't really know what to expect.

My name is Adam, dogs is Ella Vom Ridgeline.

I run my dogs from horseback most every chance I get, three days a week most weeks, this time of the year. Then when wild birds are on the nest we take a break and resume at the end of July. During that hiatus from birds, I ride one horse or another most days, to ride them into good shape.
