Nosler Solid Base

The original solid base is essentially a Ballistic Tip Varmint without the polymer tip.

The new one is different, although it looks like a Ballistic Tip Hunting without the polymer tip.

I feel like Nosler ruined the Balistip Tip when they switched to the thick tapered jackets on all their big game suitable bullet weights.

Wrong...the old solid base were not like BT varmints, they had heavy jackets like the current BT big game bullets.

I have a lot of the old solid base and shot even more.

The factory seconds are a pretty good price, I wish they were offered in bulk. I’ve somewhat replenished my stash of 140 grain .277 Accubonds lately, but I bet the 130 grain solid base would do a great job on deer and elk too.

I have some old solid base bullets on the shelf. I always liked them but have been stuck on .30 cal. for a while now so these just sit and wait.

I am going to put together a .257 Wby this winter so I am going to hang onto the 25s. My daughter also has a 25-06 and when she finishes school and has time to hunt again, we will end up shooting them.

No, not at all. About like an accubond, and IME, not as much as a partition.

I saw these in the store today. Picked up a box 7-08 out of curiosity. personally I think it's a home run business decision for nosler. they aren't as low priced as the norma whitetail but for 35 a box they beat just about everything else on the shelf. The ruts on now, and I'm busier than a woodpecker in a petrified forest but if I get some range time I'll report back.

Reporting back, I had a little bit of spare time today after lunch so I went to my little range and shot a quick three shot group with the whitetail country. When I say quick I mean I shot and dropped another one in the breech and shot. The third shot was the flyer of the group but I think that has something to do with the barrel warming up. Three shots at 200 yards.

Made another batch of lung soup tonight with the SB tomorrows the last day of the season, and I don't think I'll make the SWGA extended season due to the impending birth of my inconsiderate nephew. Season totals come out to 6 deer and 2 pretty big hogs from 30 feet to over 250 yards. All pass through and all dead within 30 feet save for one doe that I flubbed the shot on a little bit. I was really impressed with their behavior on the hogs delivering near instant death from 250+ yards through both shoulders. I was also impressed by the lack of trauma on the off side shoulder of the doe I high shouldered this evening. A+ review from me. Also I see some online vendors have come down on the price, now a few offerings in the low $20s.

Cup and core bullets, killing deer for longer than I have walked the earth. Nosler wanted back in on the cheaper deer hunting ammo business I imagine. So many "Whitetail" options out there it makes your head swim

Looks like a killing bullet that would do much the same as the big game ballistic tips, maybe a little narrower wounds due to slightly heavier base jacket? Far as component bullets go, doesn't seem like something ideally suited for lots of range use and i'm not sure I see a ton of upside vs a ballistic tip? Less meat damage maybe?

It behaves a little bit more like an accubond IMO. box says around 2800 mv in a 708 (for what it's worth). I also think they hold together a lot better than a ballistic tip.
