New Zealand Roar Hunt 2024

Spent a week hunting stags in the rut. Hard hunting this year and no big stags seen. Ended up taking an even 10 pointer. As a bonus the meat was fantastic eating and provided many meals for the six of us back at camp. Here are a few photos:

This a DIY hunt, or a guided hunt? Wife wants to plan a trip there. If we go I would like to do some hunting.

Its a DIY public hunt. There are plenty of deer (saw about 60 for the week) and chamois and it is a 4 hour walk in.

In the area we hunted, not really. Some moaning on the last couple of days. Should be proper roaring next week.

It’s the fallow rut at the moment and this buck was croaking up a storm. Really like the skin so getting a rug made.

Congrats on a great looking fallow mate! That will make a very pretty rug. My wife shot a pure white fallow (no spots) buck & a black fallow doe. She is doing a rug out of the black one & a half rug on the white one. We are anxious to get them back!

I'm lucky enough to see two on a regular basis in front of my doorway, from 100 to 800 yrds away.
