New threat to 2nd A?

Really?

My first amendment right to free speech doesn’t allow me to slander someone.

My fourth amendment right doesn’t protect my home from a valid judicial search warrant.

My fourth amendment right doesn’t protect me from a search of my person if I’m lawfully arrested.

I lose my right to vote if I’m a convicted felon (reinstating this right varies by state).

All bullshit

Night Jason.

Regarding free speech...Rudy Giuliani found out that slandering people, comes at a price.

Mostly, free speech protects you from prosecution from the government, when you speak your mind about the government.

Otherwise there are all sorts of limitations.

Employers don't have to let you speak poorly about them, without any recourse.

This board can boot you, if Big Fin decides your speech is beyond what he wants to put up with.

When I was a Union chairman, there was protection for speaking negatively about the company. That protection ended if I threatened any physical harm or violence.

There are endless caveats regarding free speech.

If videoing with a phone is impeding law enforcement, I sure hope you hold the same ridiculously light standards towards impeding the right to vote in 10 1/2 months.
It sure isn't. But that's not all that was happening. But fwiw - I think someone should (know this is crazy here, likely) confirm their identity to vote with an Id.

Is your position that neither pretti nor good were impeding the police?

Does this help? Know this lady was a fan of diagrams. images (1).jpeg

C’mon man, you know that’s not what I’m talking about. If you think ICE isn’t going to be at best hassling, at worst detaining legal citizens waiting in line to vote, you haven’t been paying attention.

Count on me not being peaceful then. And id be taking known risks. Btw - you didn't answer my question? Was pretti/good impeding the police? Not saying that it's enough to get shot, at all.

I've pretty well maintained that we don't know everything about either case and that they were very questionable, but quite possibly justified. Someone in search of truth is going to find it - probably when the courts decide.

I don't like the police shot them with a thin line of justification. In fact I hate that they have that. But i don't think a society with out things like qualified immunity would be very peaceful.

I hope that anti-hunters don’t borrow tactics from these protesters and start exercising their free speech by using whistles on a more widespread basis. In the AI summary below, just replace “federal agents” and “ICE” with “hunters”.

I haven't seen long enough video to know if Good was impeding police - from the agent/murderer's cell phone video, she appeared to wave ice by, but I don't know why her car was across the road the way it was. In the incident that he was shot, which is the only one that matters as far as his murder goes, no he wasn't. He was on the side of the road, the CPB approached him, and then he tried to help a woman up. If they can't do their job while someone yells and blows a whistle, maybe they need more than 42 days of training. 🤷‍♂️

When did we, as a society, become so full of hate? Over the last few months, I’ve lost a lot of respect for people I once believed were genuinely good-hearted. We may disagree on certain issues or agendas, but I always thought we shared basic decency until recently.
Now we live in a society that cheers for the death of someone simply because they hold different views — and that’s coming from all sides. We normalize racism, ignore our constitutional rights slowly slipping away, and replace compassion with outrage. There’s no room left for reasonable conversation. Everything turns into retaliation: “They did this, so I’ll respond out of spite.”
I don’t think most people are defending murderers or drug dealers being arrested and deported. You can disagree with how ICE handles enforcement while still supporting the removal of dangerous criminals. Both things can be true at the same time.
Should people come here illegally? No. But I also can’t imagine what it’s like to live in a place so desperate that you’d pack a backpack, grab your family, and flee to a foreign country where you don’t speak the language — knowing many people already hate you before they even meet you. That alone says something about how bad conditions must be. These are still human beings, and they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
As a nation, I think we all need to pause, take a breath, and start fixing things together instead of tearing each other apart. At the end of the day, most of us want the same basic things in life. We just disagree on how to get there.

From what I've seen - I don't disagree. There remains a lot to be see though.

The facts on this one will be out long after anyone cares anymore.

The collapse of civil and moral principals has indeed been depressing to watch in real time.

If you’re so inclined, David Brooks had a decent column touching on the subject today in a sort of cultural overview since he began at the Times. (Time to Say Goodbye, NYT, 1/30/26) The column also serves as his farewell to the paper.

The TLDR, in contemporary parlance, is “We have become a sadder, meaner and more pessimistic country.” His reasoning as to why is a bit deeper than some of the obvious. Worth a read.
