New threat to 2nd A?

Maybe this part:
A U.S. Department of Justice lawyer wearing a black suit advocated for Orozco-Ramirez to remain in detention, calling him “dangerous.” Several of the dozen or so Froid residents, who had driven seven hours to show their support for their neighbor, shook their heads.

A public defender rebutted this, referencing a previous statement by the local sheriff stating he “posed no danger to the community.” Court documents say Orozco-Ramirez has no criminal history.

Ultimately, federal Judge John Johnston set a preliminary hearing, where a judge will determine if there is enough evidence for the case to proceed, for Feb. 5 and a detention hearing, to determine whether he should be released on bail throughout his case, on Feb. 9. He will remain in detention until then.

When and why does the Sheriff's opinion not matter? If he's not dangerous, he could/should be released on bail so that he can at least prepare his affairs should he be deported.

It also points to the nuance involved when the rubber meets the road on federal immigration policy.

We are a country of laws. If you break them, you should face the music. No exceptions.
Being in this country is a privilege. There is a process to citizenship and there is a process of removal. If you are here Illegally, you should be treated as an invader, captured, and removed from this country immediately. Actually, I think that pretty much is the process in a nutshell. And lets be honest, letting people go on bail to "prepare their affairs" clearly wasn't working well for us.....Just saying.

But I'm still trying to figure out how this guy getting arrested in BF Montana is nothing more than gaslighting and sympathizing with illegal immigration.

ALSO, I welcome legal immigration and I don't care what color your skin is.

Change the law then.
I don't understand your comment with regard to what I said. There is no law change required. The Feds claim he's dangerous. The local law enforcement says he's not. Which of those entities actually knows him vs which one has an agenda to support? He could have been released on bail.

They are repealing tps to make people “illegals” they(you) never cared about people coming here the right way. You(they) just want them to be white. No self respecting European would come to a country where the most basic things like healthcare for all and mentally sound leadership are non existent.

@Wind Gypsy is one of the orcs from rokslide that enjoys licking boots. @Bonasababy dont mind him
This thread was maintaining a pretty sane tone of debate, considering how heated the topic is.

When you post something like this, to me, it seems like an attempt to derail the thread.

Ignore it @Wind Gypsy.

@Weoutside, if you want to have discussion on this topic, do that by focusing on the topic. Keep the other BS out of it. You make no progress by adding labels to anyone with a different perspective.

Gotta be sarcasm right? Floyd was another case where...thank God due to a scared young girls video...we all witnessed an unjustified murder.
While that is true, it also resulted in the prosecution and conviction of rookie officers who were simply following orders, and even tried, within what they felt comfortable with, to override their boss. Their lives were ruined. Were they still in the wrong, yeah, should they have gone to jail, no. There are a lot of valid critiques to that trial, outside of the outcome for Chauvin.

If you find you're always in complete agreement with one side, you're not better than the other, just different.

Methinks I am having a conversation with a BOT and I don't really care to debate someone who has been a member here for 4 years with 3 posts to their name (all of which are pretty hateful) but I really do wish there was a way we could have common ground on this topic and others.

However, it is obvious (by you already deciding that I am a white racist) that we will not likely be able to amicably meet in the middle. I'm sorry you feel that way.

Change the law then. Sounds to me that he had plenty of time in America to get his affairs in order and get the proper paperwork to be considered a lawful citizen. He certainly had enough time and money to build a repair shop himself from the ground up. He was deported before seems like that would of been enough of a scare and wake up call to get his immigrant status in order.
It sucks big time I do agree on that, but he didnt follow the law and somebody in Froid probably didnt like that or had some other small town vendetta against him so they reported him is my guess.
Change the law? Work on a reasonable streamlined path to citizenship for those worthy?

Great Idea!

Problem is, Donald Trump does NOT agree.

He told Republicans who were lined up to insure passage of a bill that would have been a good first step with thst...AND given presidents more authority in how we deal with asylum claims..to vote AGAINST it. They did.

There are multiple categories of those taken by ICE.

US citizens who couldn't produce papers showing citizenship.

US Citizens whose papers were not considered and they were taken away anyway.

Aliens who did it the right way, asking for asylum or on the legal path towards citizenship who have the legal right to be in this country until a decision is made on their status.

Aliens who are strong candidates for citizenship who did not claim asylum or start the long process towards becoming a citizen.

Aliens who have committed minor crimes, paid their dues, and been solid since release.

No one...despite the false narrative continually parrots by Trump, most Republicans, and MAGA Kool aid drinkers...is saying we shouldn't detain/arrest the really bad actors and criminals.

The reality is that those being taken overwhelmingly come from those other categories.

How many years did he have to get his affairs in order? Probably would have been rubber stamped during the last administration. I mean if I decided to stop filling my taxes you guys gonna get all upset when I end up in jail? I’ll still pay thru the year with my employer but just not file. I’m tired of paying single zero and extra 200 taken out of all my checks just to write. A 6-8k dollar check to the government every spring. I’m sure his business was paying taxes but I highly doubt he was.

I’m not sure there is a middle ground to be had here. Fundamentally we disagree on how people should be treated. I think that people should be treated with compassion, dignity, and respect especially those who are the most vulnerable. I’ll take a wild guess and assess that you’re more of a crack skulls “law and order” when your guy is in charge guy. At the same time you likely voted for a guy who raped children. Not sure what consensus we could come to. User != bot
User = long time lurker

According to the article, in his 2009 deportation, they stated gang affiliation, so I'm assuming he would never have been granted legal status. I can't speak to the accuracy of their assumption of gang affiliation, but in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia and many other recent ones, the presence of any tattoos or wearing certain styles of clothes or hats is enough which seems pretty questionable. Hell, @Rack Daniels might get booted for his flatbrims ;) I think one thing is pretty certain, if he was affiliated with gangs in the US, the people in Froid would know.

The younger officers all received lesser sentences. Theres a lot of complexity there needed to discuss this.

But whether in war or in law enforcement, if people wanting to follow the law and basic human rights have to blindly go along with violations of law or rights because their superior orders them to, we are all in trouble.

Why would you make an exception for him? The law, which I question how much people care about, says that he can be released on bail if he's not a danger to his community or a flight risk. The Feds said the former, his community law enforcement said the opposite.

I'm not arguing against deporting him. What I am saying, and what I think the article accurately points out, is that these are people; they are friends and community members, and it feels odd to treat him differently from other friends and community members. You can and should hold them accountable to the law.

22 pages later, one thing is clear. People with Gadsen flag license plates are about 95% more likely to implicitly believe anything and everything the government says right now, and people who have never touched an AR and poo-poo'd the idea of taking up arms against a tyrannical government are suddenly seeing the value of the 2nd amendment. Wild times; I need a new bingo card.
