I would tell them to do so. I would tell them to not obstruct any legal actions by law enforcement. I would tell them to record it. I would encourage them to have the company of others as witness if things go south.

I would thank them for doing what they feel is right. A young adult can piss away time and energy in ways that add no value to their life experience. Sticking their neck out for something they believe in will add value to their life experiences, whether I support that belief or not.

The odds of them getting hurt are far less than many of their other daily activities. Go for it.

Most people who go out to protest or stand up for something are hoping to make a difference, not expecting to get shot. And sorry, not sorry if protesting makes things harder/inconvenient for the government; that’s the point of protest.

When it’s acceptable that the only way to stay safe is to not stand up for something you believe in, then dissent is more necessary than ever. Doesn’t matter if you’re protesting ICE, or abortion, or anything on either side of the aisle. You don't have to like the person protesting, or agree with their methods (provided they’re legal), but dismissing a death by saying 'they shouldn't have been there' is pretty disheartening when thinking about the history/founding of this country. Also kind of surprising given the type of people on this forum (in my mind, freedom-loving, gun-toting advocates for things like hunting and conservation).

(And on another topic, if this is a prevailing attitude, no wonder we are losing so much ground in all things conservation, too.)

And to the guy that dislikes us “AWFFULS” (or simply, “WFFLish’s”), I guess it’s a good thing well behaved women rarely make history.

People should go protest and pack guns if they want. What I don’t understand is that these are FEDERAL officers like it or not that’s what they are why someone would wanna be close enough to get hit with mace. Go watch or film do whatever you want but why get that close and in the way? Honestly this entire thing kinda reminds me of the buffalo in Yellowstone WTF did you think was gonna happen? I don’t think he should have been shot by any means but it will be interesting to see if they release body cam footage before you guys get the rope around his neck

“You cannot bring a firearm, loaded, with multiple magazines to any sort of protest that you want. It's that simple. You don't have that right to break the law and incite violence,” Patel said during an interview on Fox News on Sunday.

Glad to see the guy in charge of the FBI doesn't even understand the Constitution he swore to uphold and protect, real patriot.

This situation is the exact quote about giving up liberty for protection and deserving neither.

And those clips of him and Noem saying that will be played by anti-gun groups for decades. What an absolute own goal.

I would’ve helped that lady and asked if she was okay too.

As far as the rest, I’ve seen the videos from multiple angles. There’s nothing he could’ve said and there is certainly nothing he did (back to all those videos), that warranted being shot 10 times in the back while unarmed and on the ground after being maced and beaten...and that is after he had his hands up in the air and his back turned to help that lady.

I get that being at a protest is perhaps an increased risk of certain types of harm that are different than every day risks. But many a good things have been pushed across the finish line by a protest….some violent. The women’s suffrage parade, many civil rights protests, the stonewall uprising, hell even the whiskey rebellion (not that I'm a big whiskey drinker).

Those are all real life historic examples of situations where what was right didn't match the law, and some form of government crossed a boundary with its citizens who its often charged with protecting through the very LEOs that were on the street. In this case, we know ICE agents are racially profiling, seizing and shooting people on the street, at least some portion of which without a warrant or due process, even American citizens.

Maybe an argument can be made that Pretti should've spent the night in the slammer before being released to go home and see his family or friends. But being ripped off a woman you're trying to help, maced and thrown to the ground, beaten by multiple men, stripped of the only thing you have to defend yourself, a right given to you by the very government that is about to shoot you 10 times in the back while you're on the ground....

That don't square for me bud. We're better than that. This country is better than that. I'm ashamed of it.
