New Mexico unit 34 elk

Hornart, interested in what kind of youth gun and cal. and bullet weight your son used. I've been looking for a youth gun for my 11 yr old. Im leaning toward Remington youth 700 in 243 or Ruger American compact. Going to start putting him in for youth elk tags in 2014. Tks

My son used an H+R singleshot in 7mm-08, 160 grain remington bullets, I wanted him to get used to the singleshot first, so he would concentrate on the first shot more. He harvested 2 elk and 2 mulie bucks with that rifle, and he became very fast at reloading.
