New Mexico - Unit 34 Elk 1st Archery Season

I got lucky this year and drew a first archery season Elk tag for unit 34 in New Mexico. I was able to spend a few days in the unit over the Fourth of July holiday and had great time cruising the unit and checking things out. Had elk around us all night where we were camped. If there is anyone who is familiar with the unit that I'd be able to PM with to ask a few questions I'd really appreciate it. Lots of elk in that unit for sure, but I likely won't have a tag like this again any time soon and want to make the most of it. Thanks for any help or advice anyone can throw out there!

Congrats on the tag. It's a great unit with a ton of elk. I archery hunted up there 3 years ago and then had a muzzle loader tag the year after. I'd be willing to try to answer some questions as well if you want to PM me.

Lucky you! Congrats to you both. The Elk were "calved up" everywhere. I am not familiar with 34 but I do know there are quite a few guzzlers and trick tanks on public. The monsoons are here and it may be wet when you hunt. This may be a good year to get a record class bull. Good luck!

Went scouting today we didn’t see any but a lot of elk droppings
