pure sacrilege to do that to a beautiful firearm@nhenry is going to lose that front sight when he has the barrel threaded.

Eh. The Europeans do it on pretty much everything. These rifles even come with a threaded option, it’s just not imported

wear ear plugs and earmuffs when shooting, leave that beautiful rifle alone.
I was going to. However, like military surplus and classic rifles, if it is in the owner’s interest to modify, they have every right to and I support whatever decision is to be made
I’m going to have a classical gunsmith friend of mine cut down the LOP a bit and install a red pachmayr. Don’t care about the resale value, I’m not sellin it. Made that mistake once before, never again

I of course understand your position. All I can offer is my deep respect for rifles of such elegance, historical stature and workmanship and hope they can be left alone. When i pick up a classic rifle that has travelled through time and is fully intact, I feel the same way as when entering genuine wilderness.
In my rifle collection I have three which my own personal comfort might be increased my adding a recoil pad.
One is a second year, (1926) production model 54 Winchester. Almost impossible to find one original. Mine is 100% original.
Another is a half century old Safari grade Browning 30-06. It is light and recoil is stiff with heavy bullets. I could no more cut off the vintage hard butt plate with its gentle curve and replace it with a rubber pad than cutting off the tip of my nose.
Next, I have a 1954 pre-64 standard weight model 70. It is 100% original, I look at that ornate heavy metal butt plate and smile.
Also in my collection is a Sako-Colt, so rare. The front sight milling is a work of art. Taking the scope off, now and then putting the Sako aperture sight on and shooting it as such, is like returning the Olympics when the 6.5x55 was the caliber of choice.
I am 78 years old, few things bring me more shooting enjoyment than my winter snowshoe biathlon course and using my 100% original vintage rifles.

They allegedly imported this rifle in 6.5x55, 8mm Mauser, 30-06, and 9.3x62. Never seen any of the others. In fact, this is the only 90 lefty Bavarian I’ve ever seen listed

I’ll add it to my list of things to day dream about, and hope that in 20 years or so I’ll be old & wealthy enough to afford one.
Makes me wanna go chase chamois through the alps.

This will 100% be with me chasing mouflon in Czechia eventually. Making it my 10 year goal now. Need to look into how to get a passport first…
