Hello Ladies and Gentlemen! My name is Cody and I am a new Hunt Talk member. I should have made this my first post, but I wasn't sure where to put it. After reading through various threads I saw this is where people come to introduce themselves, so here I am... I'm long winded, which can make for some great story telling, but I will try to keep this intro brief.

I like to say I'm a father first, husband second and hunter third (my wife would probably make you believe she is third :D). I live in St. Louis and we spend as much time as we can at my wife's family farm just southwest of the city. I grew up in a family that fished and hunted, but it was more of a hobby they did when they had time. Whereas I view it as part of my being.

I got serious about hunting and fishing in 2006. That year I did my first Northern Ontario fly-in walleye trip. The next year I got my first bow and from there it was all downhill. Until this past October my only big game hunting experience was whitetail deer at the family farm. In October I went to Wyoming in pursuit of antelope and successfully filled both my tags (posted pics in the Antelope sticky). The hunt didn't go as planned, but it was an amazing experience and I learned a lot (it also furthered my hunting desire).

I am currently playing the points game in many states across the west and should be able to start reaping the benefits of 6 years of hoarding soon. Before that happens I hope to go on a couple OTC hunts to hone my skills and learn as much as possible. I prefer bow hunting, but I'm not picky and will take any opportunity I have. I'm a research junky and as sick as this might sound, I love looking through the drawing results posted by the various states. I've even been known to download them to excel and analyze them further (much to my wife's displeasure).

I plan on doing the majority of my hunts DIY and always on public ground. As such
I am a BHA member and support the TRCP as I firmly believe in the work they are doing. I know their efforts help keep public land hunting possible.

I am definitely not going to have the wealth of information that the senior members of this forum do, but I hope to contribute to this community as much as I can. Some areas I feel confident sharing advice on; whitetail deer hunting, reloading, knife making (i'll post some pictures of my work soon) and I recently built a custom savage rifle (I know, I know its a savage, but their actions are readily available as are aftermarket parts) so I can offer advice/lessons learned to anyone doing their own build.

If anyone is still reading by this point my favorite color is green and I love a good tequila.

Thank you for your time and for being a great resource (I already feel like I've learned so much).

Cody

Welcome aboard, sounds like you are a fellow planner and data analyst. I think that's half the fun and makes success even sweeter.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

Hunting Wife - HELLUVA buck, congratulations! Our bow season runs through 1/15/16, between now and then I hope I can get a mature buck tagged, if not it will be the first season since '09 without at least one buck. Sadly the MDC just reported yesterday the first case of CWD in the country I hunt. What makes it more frustrating is that they traced CWD in MO to a specific high fence operation a couple years ago... Words can't describe my rage.

Here are a couple of my knives. The antler handled knife is a Polar blade the other is an Enzo full tang blade with a maple burl handle. The Enzo knife now resides with the ranch caretaker in Wyoming that showed my hunting buddy and I around during our antelope hunt.

Welcome Cody as a fellow Missourian I am glad to see you here. I am also saddened by the new find of cwd in Franklin county and worked as hard as I could to keep control of captive deer farms with mdc.
