Hey all, I found this forum from https://gearjunkie.com/how-to-start-hunting. I'm just learning to hunt at the ripe old age of 44. I've hunted pheasant and deer in my first season. Turkey season is coming up soon. I haven't shot anything yet. Plenty of mistakes made so far, but overall it is quite fun and a hell of a learning experience. Any advice is welcome.

Welcome! I just moved out of NEPA, flyfishing those mountain streams for natives was a humbling and extremely exciting experience!

Welcome! I'm sure you can find a plethora of info in the subforums but turkeys have sharp eyes, minimizing movement and being pretty well concealed helps a lot. Fields/clearings/relatively open woods are good places to visually locate toms, and a lot can be said for "putting them to roost" the night before a hunt. For calling I feel that slates and box calls are easier for beginners, work on yelps and purrs - but sometimes no amount of calling can make a tom go where he doesn't want to go. Fun, frustrating, magical birds.
