With no dealer in near by. Does the Beartooth compress down as well as the Metcalf for day use?? is the lid removable on the Beartooth?

Only part I do not like with the new Sawtooth/Beartooth. Once buckled you can't get in the pack easily. My only beef with the Beartooth is that you do need to unclip several buckles to open the main compartment.
I’ve been doing some playing with this and here is my two cents:Only part I do not like with the new Sawtooth/Beartooth. Once buckled you can't get in the pack easily.
The only reason it’s worth the extra pound is if you need the extra space, or if you really need pockets and such.
It’s a lot easier to make a big pack smaller than make a small pack bigger. I’m not a big pocket guy and if the Metcalf came in a bigger bag I’d switch back in a heartbeat. That’s what I figured. I don’t think I’ll need the extra space anytime soon, I’m just a big fan of organization with all those pockets.

I can't tell you how many times I'll drop my pack and catch myself reaching for that handy size zipper. My use of the Metcalf more than the Beartooth is likely just habit.
