My Lucky Year!

You’ve got a heckuva adventure for the fall! Pumped you guys are turning up sheep. Some advice I got that I took to heart when I had the chance to hunt sheep was bucket the scouting as part of this epic hunt and tag. Looks like you all are doing just that. Awesome. Thanks for bringing us along.

I’ve been out several times to scout for moose. Thankfully this unit is pretty close to home and I already know it fairly well, so it is easier to scout. I hung a couple trail cams and looked over some moosy looking country.
Of course I ran into a bunch of sheep on the road haha! Also saw tons of elk.

Only saw one little bull so far. It’s not a great pic but he was kneeling on the road which seemed strange! Licking salt maybe?? He trotted off after a little bit and let me through.

Got home from Alaska last night. Had an awesome trip, fishing and sightseeing on the Kenai peninsula with some of my best friends and family! Spent just over a week up there. Stayed in an Airbnb close to Soldotna most of the time.

As many of you probably know, the salmon fishing on the Kenai has been incredible this year and we hit the sockeye run perfectly. The only time we didn’t limit out was the evening we got there and then we caught 3 of 4 limits! Not bad for a bunch of rookies😂 but that just goes to show how many fish were in the river! Our wives even caught their limits, so yeah no shortage of fish 😜 most days we were done in less than 2 hrs.

I took my vac sealer along and it became a daily ritual to clean and vac seal all the fish. Thankfully the Airbnb had a decent sized freezer, however we still ran out of space and had to pack some in the airline boxes and take em to a processor for cold storage for a few days. We ate lots of fish! And had just under 600 lbs of fillets to split up 5 ways coming home! Not all salmon though as you will see in a minute…

Thanks for sharing those great photos! Congrats on the tags, but how does someone so young draw 2 OIL tags that young? (asking for a jealous old guy)

We were blessed with great weather the whole trip and Friday was no different when we went charter fishing in Homer. The captain said it was one of the nicest days they had all year! We went out about 70 miles and had an absolute blast reeling in halibut, rockfish, and cod. A few of the yelloweyes were monsters!!

On the way back to Anchorage we swung through Whittier for a couple hrs. What a neat place! But I won’t bore you with more scenery pics.. Thankfully we got to the airport plenty early as it was a mess with more fish boxes/ checked bags than I’ve ever seen in my life lol!
The tsa baggage belts to haul the checked bags weren’t working so they had to haul everything out manually. Both of our flights got delayed so we made it back to Bozeman about 4 hrs late- could’ve been worse!
And the only thing we were missing was the car seat. Finally figured out that it had made it to Seattle but not Bozeman. They gave us a loaner for the ride home and then delivered ours today, so alls well that ends well!
