On January 18th, at 8:31 in the morning I killed my tenth deer for the 2014 season. I was on a doe predation hunt in North Florida's Suwanee County and was on private property next to the Suwanee River Management Preserve. I had 4 does come up behind me out of the river bottom headed to a food plot on a fire line, and had to wait for them to cross the boundary line onto the property. The second deer in line stopped in a clearing about 35 yards from the stand, and I dropped her with one shot from the T/C Encore .308. About 30 minutes later I saw one of the biggest bucks I've seen in a while, walk out and head my way at about 180 yards. I never bothered to pick up the rifle, since bucks were off limits on this hunt. After he fed across the fire line he was followed by a doe that I couldn't stop and subsequently missed trying to shoot free handed and leaning over the rail of the stand. Then less than five minutes later either the same doe, or a different one came back and peeked around a large oak tree whereupon I proceeded to attempt the same type of shot, only to miss and hit the tree instead of hitting her in the head at about 180 yards.
I believe next year I'll take my .270 BAR, instead of the T/C. At least I'll be able to get off multiple shots and maybe drop one or two more when multiple deer pop up!!!!
