MT region 621 breaks elk

So I’m hearing a lot of bad things about elk in 621. It’s been 3 years sense I last had the rifle bull tag but I drew again this year. I would like to hear from others about their personal experience the last couple of years. Thanks in advance.

Honestly, I would rather have a deer B tag for mule deer than your tag. Hopefully you don't have to use vacation days for it.

Ya I got really lucky. 15 years for the first one 4 for the second

I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s a fun hunt but not a trophy hunt as you probably already know. Numbers are down along with size even from four years ago, but if you glass a lot and cover ground, you’ll still find elk, usually in small groups or singles. Glass all day if you can and pick apart those thick shaded junipers mid day really well looking for some tines sticking out. Good luck and have fun in some cool country.

Nice work man. The breaks get tougher and tougher every year. I could easily kill a bigger bull with less effort in a general unit than the breaks units I’ve hunted so far. This year it took me 33 boot miles before I found an elk on public.
