I'm wondering about the few draw units that are in the MT regs for archery. There are only a half dozen or so and I think one of them is only draw because of 'low #'s of elk'. I'm sure there will be plenty of general season public land opportunities for me and my bow but I thought I'd check and see if I could get some input on the draw tags.

It basically comes down to what kind of hunt you want. If you want to hunt the western part of the state in the mountains, no need for a special permit. If you want to hunt the breaks or one of the small island ranges, you're going to need to apply for a permit.

Do more research though, there's a lot more than six archery only bull tags.

Any of those units can be good. In many of them, figuring out the access can be the key to success. Whether that is finding a way to get around the private to some public, or making relationships with the private owner.

Plenty of elk, and good bulls, in most of those units, if you are lucky enough to draw as a NR. Just expect lots of company on the "easy to get to" places.
