Dylan is a genius songwriter. As for his performances….meh…. He took his obsession of Woody Guthrie, mimicked him, and somehow it made him famous

I much prefer Jacob Dylan and the Wallflowers over his old man, I saw them live way back when they were big and it was a great show...

I think Dylan's initial popularity was more a sign of the changing times. I became a fan when Blood on the Tracks came out.

I also think that because today the money is made on the live tours, and the more extravagant the better, the music has changed to fit that. It makes comparing the eras more difficult and the “storyteller” songwriters are less popular.

Rush’s first album, Fly By Night and 2112 rock. After that, it becomes a bit much for me to listen to at times. I don’t want to get tired listening to music. Yes is the same way- I like it, but it tires me out.

Would you include Kansas in there? Prog rock does have deep lyrics and intricate music. As a musician, I often wonder how music comes across to non-musicians.
