Montana State Move In - Job Ideas?

Point of pride for me is that he and his brother framed and sided this for our neighbor when they were 15 and 17 years old respectively.

I helped set the trusses and sheet the roof one Saturday and answered questions as they came up. They did the rest. Shingles were installed by a professional roofer.IMG_8201.jpeg

He’s been at this long enough to see the wisdom of gaining a skillset that can allow him to work remotely, and to realize that most folks drawing the plans aren’t approaching it from the perspective of having to build it.

He’s also incredibly artistic with great ability to draw and sketch so the conceptual parts of building are not complex for him.

It doesn’t hurt that my next three projects are within 10 miles of MSU so he can work days he’s not in class. That’s huge since he’s paying for his own college education.

Nice. We need more up and coming that want to learn the trades. But what your Son is doing is needed also. Good stuff. My daughter paid for most of her college on her own. Good to see good kids do well. mtmuley

Thats awesome. That'll be a serious advantage over his competition imo, like no other.

Congrats! I know he will find enjoyment in the Bozeman area and I hope he excels through all of his studies. If he’s a hunter, I can send a few pins.

And for God’s sake, tell him to mind the speed limit and keep his eye on the road.

Hey All,

Skye’s moving in this weekend. He’s an honors kid that got his AA through running start, wrestling captain, and has worked since he was 14. He’s going into engineering.

He’s my kid, but thank God not my doppelgänger. Ideas for work? Any advice for my kid in Bozeman?
I know it's very early and likely to change, but is there a particular flavor he's interested in (Mech, Civil, Aero, EE)?

Thanks man! He’s resistant to hunting… It’s too early… 😒 Of he changes his mind I’ll holler.

He’s taken lots of advanced math through running start at Eastern Washington, and even some pre-engineering stuff. He’s really interested in electrical and mechanical at this point.

We moved my son (freshman) into Roskie Hall yesterday. It was an all-day affair that left my wife and I exhausted, but the worst part, hands down, was an ill-advised trip to the Bozeman Walmart and Target in the middle of the day. I think everybody was there. Literally, everybody.

Roskie is still standing? I thought that was like the unintended leaning tower of Pisa - even decades ago. Pie shaped rooms, wild!

All your kids will find jobs and make a pile of cash these days if they are even remotely ambitious. I remember making $7.15/hr in college here on work study. My kids have made 5x that wage while in school.

Congrats to your son!! He will have a lot of fun there and make a lifetime of memories. He will be driving 85 miles past the best engineering school in the country though 😜
Having made a lifetime of memories and friends at MSU in the sixties and having watched many engineering graduates succeed in impressive careers, I strongly endorse MSU.
However, Montana Tech is also an excellent school and produces highly recruited engineers.
BTW, favorite story about Tech grad is the success of a small town Belgrade boy who graduated from Tech, then found himself in an innovative career that was timely and exceptionally rewarding ... rewarding to the extent that he was able to purchase the famed, iconic Rocky Mountain Front LF Ranch of 42 thousand acres for around fifty million dollars! 'Can't get much more successful than that as a small town kid with a Montana Tech degree.

It is still standing, although I noticed a number of the concrete columns on the front portico had a lot of visible rebar at the bottom! Hopefully, MSU's engineers have given it a good once-over review. If my grandkids go to MSU, I doubt Roskie will still be around.
