Nice work guys!
I managed to put up a few sage grouse but they were a little far off for a shot. Had a nice walk in the sage w/ nobody in sight for miles. Left the camera at the truck rather than trudge it around so no pics.

I will guess you were not in my part of the country this year? Did you see quite a few? I kicked up a group of 32 the other day while working in an area I usually don't see them. Hopefully West Nile doesn't whack 'em this year. Lame on the not carrying the camera. Get with it. ;-)
In my defense, I was slightly hung-over. I was left unsupervised the night before.
I saw just those two in the 2-3 miles I walked, but plenty of fresh sign. If I had a dog I'm sure more birds would have got up. This walking up birds w/o a dog is malarkey.

What are people seeing for forest grouse? I spent Sunday out in some of my favorite spots in NW MT and saw zippo, even with a good dog. Don't know if I just didn't see 'em or if we didn't see 'em cause they weren't there.

So far, down here in Boomtown country, Blue hunting has been real spotty (for me at least). Last couple years were great, numbers wise. This year I have been skunked a few outings, gotten one or two - but yet to get a daily bag limit. Yesterday took my old girl out and finally got into decent numbers but only got one as the birds were in heavy timber and flushing like aholes before we had a chance (pressure??.....). Today my youngster and I climbed 1000' in about a third of a mile to the other side of the mountain from yesterday's hunt. After the lung burner - not a single bird seen, nor did she ever even get birdy. Have talked to a few guys around here that have seen birds but haven't got a real clear picture population wise.
Have shot a couple fairly small YOY, may have been a rougher June/early July, on the broods, than I thought it was???
The little one is a bit tuckered tonight....

Pretty slow for me in my normally productive spots as well. However, I saw a pile of them while elk hunting last week.

Meant to comment on Blues with my pics. Here is a great recipe:
Take breasts and squish em with a meat hammer,i use the waffle side.
Sprinkle fresh parmesan,chopped Sage on breasts then lay Proscuito(sp?) over the breasts and apply hammer again. Just try to embed the Proscuito without a full assault.
Saute in olive oil in fry pan.No tough and funky Blue Grouse again.

Youngster's 1'st Blue. She first pointed the bunch before they flushed, it piled up dead in a Doug Fir - I had to climb up the tree to do the retrieve as she stood on back legs at the trunk barking. Watching a young dog come into her own
is such a great time....
is such a great time....Nice work guys. Having an off weekend here as the mrs.heads to Missoula for the weekend. Time to wax up boots & work on final loads for big game. Might still get out and see if the goofus dog can handle a few miles on Mac pass.
