I had spot #52 for elk I think, I got an email on Monday letting me know I could purchase. I thought about it, but left it for the next people! I don't need more than 1 elk tag a year.

Perhaps the number of federal/other layoffs? I would certainly reconsider a trip out of state if I lost my income...

Yeah I doubt that has a greater than 1% affect on any of these returned tags. Besides, most layoffs were done prior to the application deadline for MT...

Not true, and also, those that took DRP will only get paid until Sept. 30.

I do agree that probably isn't a major factor in returned tags.

Agreed. Pretty busy around here. I wouldn't say the state of the country is bad based on the surrounding states and consistent growth & expansion of businesses.

Far from an expert but I think it’s people applying for multiple tags in multiple states with knowing that there is no way they can possibly hunt everything if they draw so they return all but the best tags they drew with no or little repercussion's.

Like you - and brockel and many others have said , Montana NR tags will sell out , and until they don’t nothing in Montana will change .

Ironically the state makes more money when you return them .
