Metcalf rifle carrier.

I have a Metcalf without the rifle cradle option that the butt of the stock rests in. My SIL's exo has one that basically clips on. Anyone tried a different way to set up an older Metcalf to carry a rifle? Just want to pack it after I have a quarter on. Thanks. mtmuley

I used a Kifaru Universal Gun Bearer for years with my old Metcalf. I wasn’t wild about it but never tried anything else. When packing meat though while I still had my rifle on me, I’d tuck the butt of my rifle into the elastic pocket on the side of the pack and strap it under the scope using the side cinches. Worked okay unless the pack was a really wonky shape because of the meat. Then I’d just put the rifle back into the Gun Bearer and deal with it for that initial pack out.

I think that Exo sling could probably be used on a Metcalf.

I have the EXO carrier on my K4. It works great when packing but I am not that quick getting my rifle out of it so I have the universal gun bearer on it, too.

I used this on my beartooth, when hauling meat I kept it in bottom gun bearer saddle and strapped top of riffle to pack, kept barrel lower so it didn’t snag on branches.

I also have a Kifaru gunbearer on my Metcalf, and I have it set up to carry the rifle behind my shoulder instead of under the arm. It works well. @mtmuley I’ll take a photo when I get home tonight.

Same. I dont hook the rifle to the pack unless I'm coming out with a load the first trip.

It works well for me. The Kifaru stock bucket is easily adjustable and sturdier than the stone glacier one I’ve tried before. The SG tended to twist on me, the Kifaru seems to hold it in place better. I have it attached to the belt/frame connection, not actually wrapped around the belt, it’s more comfortable that way.
