Metalworking Hunttalkers!

I thought the handrail was a side job you picked up. If the hoss wants to sharpen bits, so be it.
Carry on!
I do have a side project coming up for a friend. Building 4 ft sides out of angle and expanded metal for his dump trailer and fixing some hinges he bent by not securing the tailgate when he dumped a load.

Started working on a COP (clean out of place) tank today. It's a mess. Lots to fix. Not often I use a multitool on metal. 20230525_083304.jpg20230525_083312.jpg20230609_125215.jpg20230609_125223.jpg

Here's what it looks like when you don't realize your purge line isn't on:

Thankfully just a ferrule so it was easy to cut off and put a new one on. We were tying in a glycol line today, instead of working as a fitter/welder team boss let me do one of the lines by myself and he did the other one. It always gets interesting figuring out how to weld the piece together once all the fittings are on.

Nice work, as usual. 👍

Finally finished the piping on the tank today. Only a couple patches, a drain, and a hanger left and it'll be done. A fun fit for the distribution end of the tank connections: 20230621_115723.jpg20230621_120521.jpg20230621_120526.jpg

Due to clearance, I had to freehand the inside of the final weld because it was too close to a 90 to fit the torch and my hand while walking:20230621_115739.jpg

The other end of the tank was a much easier connection: 20230621_144949.jpg

Back at it on the handrail. The patio section we did last time has been painted and the stone is in (just waiting on grout). The concrete deck took us a fair bit longer to set posts on because it was so uneven. 4 tapcons on each post has those suckers anchored very well. There's also going to be a leveling pour so the bases of the posts will be covered. The trex posts have 4 timberloks through the double band and are also very sturdy, even when they weren't welded together.

We'll be back Monday to finish everything up, the stairs being the main time consumer left. 20230622_163241.jpg20230623_103749.jpg20230623_103756.jpg20230624_162335.jpg20230624_162339.jpg20230624_162344.jpg

Snapped it off. Welded on a nut, a couple times actually ……. snapped all of that off even deeper.

Then got pissed and pulled out the die grinder and went to work.

Drilled.

Tapped.

Installed bolt with high temp anti-seize and moved on with life.

Been a little bit slow so that has meant clearing out the projects that my boss picked up just to give me some more practice. Nothing too fun, some trailer repairs and such. I did finally get to start practicing on 3/4" sanitary tubing which is what I will certify on. We also have a sink drain tomorrow that will be 1" sanitary so I welded up some fittings for that. 20230706_090917.jpg20230711_140931.jpg20230712_130318.jpg20230712_130333.jpg20230712_150834.jpg

My older son took an arc college class at the beginning of summer as kind of a hobby/ break from regular classes. He really enjoyed it and passed all requirements with 130%
He moved on and signed up for a Tig class, these are his first practice plate runs on SS. He's going to continue the Tig class through summer break, and add more welding related courses into his curriculum..it looks like he's going to be veering away from his goal of getting his masters in construction management... whatever floats his boat I guess. 20230712_145415.jpg20230712_145406.jpg

Some talent in this thread. All I’ve done is rebuilt a tripod with some help. Have a bunch of equipment and tools available for me just need the time.

Did the 1" drain line yesterday, that was a fun little job. Pointless, but makes the customer happy so yee haw. Placed the $650 material order for the side work I have next week. Not sure if I'm massively overestimating what I'm capable of but there's a lot of expanded metal I'm going to have to stick weld. Probably gonna sweat to death too. 20230713_183204.jpg
