Well it is my first spring in MT (sorry natives) and I'm planning on making a trip west in search of adventure, bears, and to a lesser extent if I happen to stumble upon some, turkey.

Therefore, for those more familiar with the area, considering the seasons, I have a few questions:

1. Considering the warm/early spring we have had, will the black bears still be feeding heavily around Memorial day weekend?

2. Are fresh grasses high up on slopes, in disturbances/avalanche chutes still the go to food source that late? I have also heard that closed logging roads can be a good place to find decent grass.

3. Are there other food sources I should be aware of? I have heard that they will hit dandelions and glacier lilies pretty heavily.

4. Is there a chance that the bears will start rutting at that point? If so, how might that change their behavior?

Finally, I hear that when camping in griz country that there's safety in numbers, so if anybody is going and doesn't mind sharing a camp, I can bring the finest bratwurst that Sam's club in Great Falls has to offer.
