Bears are making the most of what is available during this drought. Sightings and encounters around towns and ranches is a daily event in NM this year.
Guy was killed north of me on the Navajo Rez yesterday by a black bear.
Several people have been mauled in northern and central NM this year.

The drought drives them to food and water and that is available in the cities. Every night a half dozen videos of bears in yards and houses the last month. Motels are hot spots too.
Report last night said NMF&W has relocated dozens and they have shot close to 200, citizens another 50 or so. Shot, not drugged. Dangerous encounters.

I don't think we need grizzlies again. The zoo wolf/dog plan has worked out so good........

Most years bears pass through our area during early spring and fall seasons, looking for whatever food they can find. This year, with a poor berry crop and other factors, bears have been seen throughout the summer. We have seen four bears right out our kitchen window and wonder how many others visited our place without being seen.
Last week as I sat by the river having an evening beer, a small black bear crossed the river just upstream from me. Unfortunately, I was not quick enough to get pic of him in the river. Another crossed right through our yard and headed across the road and upstream on the Gallatin.

Colorado news has been reporting bear attacks down there recently.
Be bear aware folks.
