My 6.7 ram is starting to nickel and dime me. I was considering a Subaru, but the maverick with FX4 package has my attention. Anyone using a maverick? Any pros/cons? I never do any hard off roading. Mostly pavement and forest service roads a few times a year hunting.

A guy I work with drives a Maverick and he seems to really like it. He mostly drives pavement and hard packed trails, can fit a bunch of stuff in the back including dead animals. It suits HIS needs.

A 6.7 Ram to a Maverick is a significant difference! Don't need a full sized truck anymore? Or are you looking for something in addition to your Ram?

i'm a big proponent of the only thing that matters is that it works and is reliable. and for hunting that could easily mean subaru, maverick, a tacoma, xterra, titan, f150, whatever.

but if the maverick proved itself somehow to be the top dawg numero uno all around hunting vehicle, you still couldn't pay me to buy a truck that looks like that. they really did a dirty one designing that.

They remind me of the Honda Ridgeline. I don't trust people who drive those...

It’s 9 years old and I have one move left coming up and that will probably be the last time I haul a trailer for the foreseeable future. I got the 6.7 when I was pulling/hauling a lot which I rarely do now.

My co-worker has one. The toughest thing for me would be lack of ground clearance. I’ve had to deal with that in a couple of my vehicles.

Also nowhere to sleep comfortably, cab and bed are both too small. But then again, most people don’t sleep in their cars 30+ nights a year.

Is it the FX4?

I test drove one when they first came out and a buddy drives one for his daily driver. As mentioned, they are super small and low to the ground. The one I test drove seemed cheaply built (I get they're made to be affordable). It was a hard no for me after the test drive.

I would struggle to go from a big truck to something so small. I'd consider a tacoma, colorado, or ranger before I'd go that small. Have you been in one? I've never been in one, but I have a coworker who has one, so I've looked at it. Big difference from what you're used to!

Used to have a Tacoma. Liked the truck but I might as well buy full sized and still get the same fuel economy. On the fence about a F150 but idk if I want to spend 55k when I don’t haul anything anymore.

His is awd, but I don’t think it has the fx4 package. Is it a 1” lift on the fx4?
I believe the FX4 package adds some height. Just measured the 2500 and the differential is only 8 inches off the ground.

Those things are notoriously bad on fuel. I'm guessing the newer ones are better, but the ranger or Colorado should be much better! Will you fill up the bed of a truck with meat & gear on a hunting trip?

Well I'll be the positive voice of this thread.
I really like the Maverick. If you aren't towing heavy weight frequently, it suits the needs of most truck owners. Better MPG, decently priced, and will have good aftermarket support for years to come in multiple areas.
Guys are making low riders, fast trucks, and off road machines out of them.

Mid size trucks would be a great option if they didn't cost as much as a full size.

Im sure you've watched them by now, but Driving Sports TV has many vehicles with his FX4 Maverick as he bought one as a long-term vehicle

I was in the market a little over a year ago. Considered a Maverick but the cost to get into the one with AWD and the features I wanted wasn't worth it to me. Looked hard at the new Chevy Colorado but ended up saving over $10K and getting into a year-old nicely equipped Nissan Frontier. Very happy with that, and for my money, it ended up being a whole lot better than the Maverick. To each their own.
