Matt Rinella knocking it outta the park

I'm sorry but attacking the guy's character falls flat to me. I'm much more interested in hearing counter arguments to the points he makes. He seems to care about the average hunter a lot more than most hunters on social media these days. Maybe he's a bit of a curmudgeon, but so what? It is painful to hear of two brothers becoming estranged, especially after reading the article RJ linked. I wouldn't do what he's doing if it meant becoming estranged from my own brother, I hope they can work things out some day.

People tend to like Matt, people in town speak highly of him.
I know several people who worked for and with him and they all love him.

The dude also specializes in plant ecology and I'm sure research he does helps inform agencies etc. on how to manage. I'd say his entire career is based in conservation.

Matt Rinella is my #1 favorite view/listen on hunting people. He may not be perfect but he 100% genuinely does not give a phuck what anybody thinks about his opinions on all those about fame and income with hunting/outdoor recreation. And he’s funny, real funny. The Halloween costume was legendary.

But wait maybe catch a podcast on “meat care” by somebody who doesn’t process his animals ..

For those of us not in “the industry” and from the outside looking in, it’s hard to disagree with this take. Americans love a good satire and/or parody.

It seems the HuntTalk hive is somewhat split on this issue. I am alright with that, one of the reasons I come here.

I think it is perfectly fine to be skeptical of corporate interests creeping into conservation efforts. That being said we do have challenges from both ends with public land transfer and anti-hunting initiatives looming. It will take a “big tent” approach with lots of resources to fend off those opponents and win the day for hunting and conservation.

That’s great. I’m glad they do and I’m not being facetious. I’m probably biased because of my own life experience but people who do what he’s done to Steve are not the kind of folks I want to be around anymore. In my experience if you get close to someone like that it’s only a matter of time before you violate their sense of how things should be and they discard relationship if you don’t conform .
There’s ways to voice criticism and concern without wrecking relationships in the process.

Agreed. Family is important. To throw away a relationship over something like this is wild. Does Matt expect Steve to abandon what he's built? Sad to see, but I'm not throwing away my success because a sibling decided to take a stance against it.

Is it jealousy of Steves success?

The same people here who support Matt are the same ones constantly posting and sharing hunt stories and photos here. Ironically, one of the things Matt hates...

It is curious that he leaves forums out of it.

You are wrong good sir... Matt doesn't care for the posting of kill pics on social media that the entire general population is on, not a hunting forum. two entirely different platforms.

Not really.

Learn way more from googling a unit than you do searching it on facebook.

didn't steve name one of his kids matthew?

bummer.

it's evolved into the Kardashians of the hunting world and one of them clearly seems more unhinged than the other. i really can't imagine myself remotely caring about any of it at this point. i still think steve puts out worthwhile content and I don't go downstairs, rip my shirt off, kneel down, and flog myself after i've consumed it.

the only thing that matters in all this is that cam is truly a douche. matt really does hit it outta the park in that arena.

Google something hunting related. I bet HuntTalk shows up. Anyone can see what's on this site. You don't have to be registered.

So, I'd say I'm still right since this is open to the general population.
He’d probably hate me and I’d still think he was awesome. 🙂
Do you like him for the Cam jokes? Or his opinions on the hunting industry?

BHA sells side-by-sides. So does ME. BHA is deeply in denial about standing neck deep in hunting markets. Outgoing BHA CEO Patrick Berry has been a sharp and outspoken critic of Matt R. It wasn’t enough though, apparently. BHA decided to outdo itself by bringing in one of Steve’s top two collaborators to send a jarring message of BHA’s undying devotion to “hunter” recruitment - thinly-veiled as recruitment of conservation advocates - but in practice primarily functions to funnel $$$ to realtors, outdoor goods, outdoor services, and G&F departments. BHA accepts loads of donated gear and services from outdoor companies to fuel recruitment. And who better than to have as CEO a prominent hunting gear manufacturing entrepreneur?

I hope everything turns out well for BHA and for Ryan. He is obviously a highly-talented individual. BHA chapters collectively devote 50% or more of their present resources towards recruitment. Is Ryan going to keep BHA’s R3/hunting industry emphasis chugging along, bumping PR dollars up to fund more R3? Maybe lead the organization out of the hunting industry’s pocket, and divert more resources into access and habitat? Time will tell.

You have a problem with new hunters ?

Both. Appreciate his views and he’s likely right it’s not the best idea to plaster dead animal pics around.

His targets in the industry should at least have some self reflection from his criticism.

Is it true keep hammerin can’t have a podcast episode without scripting some wise cracks about Matt Rinela? Mission accomplished?
