Looking for MT 203 Honey Holes

Yes she is left eye dominant. And needs help in shooting, but is surprisingly accurate to about 150 yards. Hopefully this year we can practice more.

She got a nice buck yesterday. Thanks to Ben for direction on different spots. We got within 40 yards so it was an easy shot.
Knowing I had even the smallest role in helping a kid have a good time on a hunt really made my day.

Although gotta say, I sent a bunch of waypoints yesterday morning and got a text back with photos of a dead buck. She had already sealed the deal on her own and got a great 4x4.

Well, the tag gods smiled upon me this year and I drew a nice mule deer permit. I've spent a day or two in the unit glassing deer during the rut for the heck of it. All the forkhorns were of the XL variety, which seems promising.

Anyone had this tag in the last decade or so and willing to discuss their experience over PM or otherwise? I normally loathe asking for specific info, but this isn't an easy tag to draw and I'd love to collect every possible nugget of info I can to make the most of things.

Appreciate it!
I saw the picture of your buck from last year, Congratulations!!! My dad and I drew the tag as a party, this year. Would you happen to have any pointers on where to start in this unit? Were you able to find more deer in one part of the district over another?

My 14 y.o. son also drew this tag this year. We live a couple hours away but plan to get there to scout a few times before the season. I appreciate the dialogue on here & would love to chat with a person or 2 that knows the district to confirm what I've researched a bit. We're pretty excited to explore some new country!

My 12 y.o. drew this tag this year as well and we plan to spend a fair amount of time this summer learning the unit. We live up in the Flathead so not to crazy far to scout, but not in our backyard either. Be fun to have access and contact with some of you that have the tag this year. Good luck to all.

Guys, can confirm that there’s deer. Don’t sweat it too much.

Please click on the sponsor links so the forum can get a few nickels or whatever out of the new subscribers.

You’d better ‘effin come back and post some pictures. If you don’t intend to then I hereby cast a pox that’ll get you and your children who drew the tag nothing better than a forkhorn.

Also, I totally changed the name of the thread to a unit that went away under the “Great Simplification.” But I did used to draw some WT B tags in that unit that the thread is now named after and killed my first deer in there.

My 15 year old daughter drew again, she is dsylexic and left eye dominant (right-handed), super short on time due to volleyball, work, etc. Please pm me any really great spots in 203 where she can kill a 170 type buck. Again dont have a lot of time to make it happen....

My neighbor's kid actually did draw that tag twice. Once he aged out of youth tags I was like "Welcome to general unit hunting, it's all downhill from here."*

*Actually, the kid and his sister are both pretty accomplished and talented hunters whatever the unit.

She did draw again, but I was being funny about asking for spots. We plan to start shooting more with her. Its pretty tough to draw as an adult. I dont even bother applying for limited deer tags in Montana.

Haha I’m wondering if they even gave out any adult tags for 203? I’ve gotten several PM questions as well, all for youth hunters. I’m telling everyone about the same things- it’s not hard to find deer in this unit, just might be hard to find anything over 160”..
