Looking for California Gold

My wife got me a mine lab metal detector and I want to give it a try.
I want to prospect somewhere east of Stockton California but I don’t want to jump anyone’s claim.
I’m just looking for a small wash I can walk up without paying for access or getting in to trouble. Does anyone know of a played out wash I can take a walk in next week?

A buddy from work gives me this magazine to read. It's GPAA and they have areas where members can prospect. Maybe something for you to check into.

Im not a member but looks like an organization similar to RMEF with membership and magazines. I get the magazine from a guy at work.
