Do any of you use llamas for hunting instead of horses or mules? And I mean to haul gear & big game kills - not snuggle up to at night. hump :D Can they pack that much weight and are they easier to keep than horses?

A friend's friend near Burley just picked up 3 for $100. I'm waiting to see how they work out for him. IIRC, T-Bone used some on his first sheep hunt a few years back.

My co-worker here swears by them. Way easier (and cheaper) to keep than horses. Very little training involved. They can pack "up to" 125# each but they have to be in pretty good shape. You can't ride them, but if you can walk where your going they can pack in all your stuff and pack outs lots of boned meat. Very quiet and don't need much water, and can graze on native feed. They are also small enough that a kick from one of them won't kill you.

Personally I have never used them but I am also interested in getting some. Wife wants a horse.
