Happy New Year

Looking for recommendations for a life-size mountain goat of who to send my hide and skull to.

Paul Penny and Dewey would not take it. Monarch, Deer Creek, and Zimmerman are all around $8-9K. Zimmerman has decent turnaround time, the other 2 are long waits.

Wildlife Revolutions and Wildlife Gallery are closer to $6K, but long turnarounds as well.

Doesn't have to be a big shop, but just giving some data points Ive already collected.

Ive found a couple of shops near me (east coast) that would do it for $4,500-$5K, but they have done very few/dont have any recent pics to show, and I dont want my goat to be part of their training program.

If you have a recommendation, please either post here or send me a PM if preferred. Pics of your life-size welcomed

Below is the general pose and caliber of work I am wanting done. I've seen some goat mounts, likely older, that looked like they were soaked with a hose, coats generally looked haphazard and sloppy/unfinished, no attention to detail or lack of experience/knowledge of what to do by the taxi, and/or the rock base looked like a 3rd grader made it, so looking to avoid those.

I think ideally it would be someone out West (who knows what goats are supposed to look like and does them regularly) who is a 1 man show who maybe doesnt have an online presence or go to shows, but quietly puts out great work. Maybe a 1 man show with a helper. I just dont know who these people are/not sure how to find them. Feel free to PM if you don't want it out on the www, I wouldnt want to share either.

Thanks in advance

I'd talk to Bum at Bum's Taxidermy in Birch Run, MI. He is first class in all regards and will tell you how much experience he has on goats. Anything beyond Deer we take to him all the way from KY (Red Stag, Caribou, Kudu, Gemsbok, etc.)

They don’t have a website, but this local (to me) place does some pretty decent work. Was lucky enough to view their personal stuff, and can confirm they do artistry instead of just taxidermy- bases, backdrops, habitat scenes, etc. Purcell’s Wildlife Artistry.

Lifted from Google Maps.

Check out Artistic Visions Wildlife in PA. They are a good sized shop and do a wide variety of mounts! Never had them do a life size goat but they did my brown bear and a velvet caribou for me.

Animal Artistry out of Reno, NV did my most recent life-size brown bear. They promised 6 month or less turn around time which I thought was very optimistic. I had my bear delivered to my home 5 months from when I shot him. They're not the cheapest, but do outstanding work.

I have this one at Reflections taxidermy in Helena. Owned by Ryan Butler, who used to be one of the guys at Monarch.

I dropped it off in Nov so it’s not done of course but I think he’ll do a good job.
He did a few sheep for some friends and his work at Monarch was high quality.

Following…. I have a life sized goat and a life sized bighorn sheep skins tanned and frozen in my freezer. I’m trying to decide whether dropping 8-12K on taxidermy is the direction I want to go or if I should just sell the capes and use that to fund part of another adventure…

The fact that I already have multiple mounts gathering dust in my garage and not properly displayed in nudging me towards the latter.

Good luck with your search for a high quality taxidermist.

Me, I would fund an adventure. But that kind of money for taxidermy is way beyond my reach. mtmuley
