Let’s talk about firewood

We have rolls of lumber wrap at our shop. I lay it out in front of my log stack. Cut and roll it up. Off to the burn pile. I saved a bunch of sawdust to mix with diesel. Starts fires in the wall tent quick. mtmuley
My firewood starter is a blowtorch.

You need to invest into renting a firewood processor for the day. Your family’s body’s will thank you.
Sigh. It was my grand plan. The two locations near my house sold its processors. Closest was 5 1/2 hours away - 22 hours of driving. Plus I did the rental math and they are very expensive all in.

We are blessed to have one in a hours drive in 3 different directions.

Grew up from 4th grade on cutting firewood from blowdown eucalyptus and cypress trees with my father and grandfather. Grandpa made a log splitter from a stationary hay baler where the pto from a tractor drove a large flywheel connected to a large plunger shaft running horizontal with a homemade wedge on the end. It ran continuously and you had to time putting the wood on the deck. Definitely not OSHA approved.

My bonus son in Spokane will be moving into his mother's home which has fireplaces up and downstairs. I've tried to explain how much using firewood would decrease his heating oil bill but he doesn't seem to appreciate that. I think his immigrating Filipina fiancée is gonna give him an expensive lesson if he ever tells her where the thermostat is.....

I’ve been busy doing other tasks, manly wood splitter games and early deer tag. My splitter is mostly shot after almost 25 years of use. Neighbor offered his splitter when we bumped into each other at a restaurant/bar. I took him up on his offer after my second fix failed. As of today, all the wood is split. 10 rows stacked.

We’re down to stacking when I’m not hunting my early deer tag. Fall is coming…
