Late monsoons, record El Nino...

Sounds like you and the pooch are warm and dry. Hope it stays that way!
Standing water flowing away from house good here. Bottom flowing.
Had to bring in porch wood. Getting wet 6ft under a roof.

La Plata,Animas, San Juan rivers all flooding.
Show Low, Pinetop flooding. Apache & Navajo counties in AZ.
Now Grant co. here in NM, south of me. Silver City, Mimbres.

Not easing up.
See yall in morning...

Wow!
The sound of the wind thru dead trees.
60 mph and add the rain.
Freight train going over the house came to mind.

37. Rain has stopped and wind has died some.
Clouds still racing east.
Clearing here and fall. 50 for high, 1st hard freeze tonight.
Puddles and wet ground at 1st light.
Dotti had to go bark at a truck & trailer heading down the county road across the valley, lit by the clouds.
Back in laying by the hearth.

New lists of evacuations coming in.
Many in 4 corners.
Southern Colorado very bad.
AZ the same.

Powell & the Butte could fill again this year.
El Nino has done it before.

Safe & sound. Warm.
2 half pies need to be dealt with today. Peach & blueberry.
I'll need a walkabout later.

Cool & clear today. 31 after sunrise.
A chance of rain tomorrow, snow some say.
The landscape is mostly brown now after some frosts.
Cool weather plants going now.

Got a haircut early and went and looked down in my bottom lands.
Very muddy.
I made it to the big tank ,but almost got stuck.
Did not try the stream crossing, but Jr did it seems.
No fresh tracks about.
Lots of water. Lots of winter grasses.

I checked my trees and they are happy. Big tank still full/maxed.
Walked up the stream bed and there is standing water 400 ft from big tank.
Slow flowing water.
Patches of grasses growing here and there. Some still green.
Wild rye, wheat grasses,fescues.
Got to my fence line and walked up to the well.
Big area of rye on outflow of tank.
Rained on bull tracks....hmmm.

Went up and joined Dotti in the dance. Howdy dance.
A hour later Amador calls and says Jr got some game pics from here.
Are we cow hunting? Nope.
Good . He sends me a pic of 2 bulls. One is a dandy. 7x7.
Jr calls later and a plan is in works.

His wife tagged out. Their Dr friend tagged out.
Sr has been playing the last light game with several. Has not got a good look.

I told him about the big 6x and he saw the tracks...bigger than the 7x.

We are in the DRY now. 1st time in 2 years. Almost normal.
Took some floods and a toll.
Just called in and donated $100 for Red Cross Telethon.
The Rez's are in bad shape.

Dotti & I are fat and sassy,literally.
Elk hunts coming.

I also enjoy your updates Hank. I especially like your description of geography and critters. Love the tales of elk movement. Well, and Dotti. Kinda wish she was a little more mischievous and chewed up your favorite slippers or something!

She ate 4 of my favorite hats and a camera charger cord. Corner of a book...

She's out on the east porch and in a recliner. Hoping for morning sun. No luck today me thinks.
Clouded up,44. Too warm for snow.

Guess Jr and clan decided to bail on this place this morning....late text.
No skin off my nose and I'll slow any thoughts of abuse of who. Sounded like a bro clan when it's a one man show. 2 maybe.

Fall tarantula march underway.
Dotti is most intensely involved.

Been following your reports Hank. Unfortunately my elk hunt was a washout up near Chama (Chromo Colorado). We arrived a week early (October 17 for our October 24 hunt) as normal and weather was great for our usual sightseeing and checking out the fall colors. Then it got nasty. Rain and hail started and we were stuck in our Motel in Chama (Vista Del Rio Lodge). We were supposed to head up to the Ranch (Banded Peak Ranch) on Friday but was told by the outfitter to hold tight. Saturday (day the hunt was supposed to start), got a call from the outfitter that the bridges to the ranch were gone (He sent pictures and a video). He was stuck on the wrong side of the river (didn't get off the mountain until Wednesday). He cancelled the hunt and offered a refund.

We left the next morning and headed home. I understand from the weather reports that they got hit even harder after we left. Pagosa Springs really took a hard hit and many roads and bridges were washed out. Chama had a mandatory evacuation. Youtube videos show massive flooding.

After losing everything in Katrina (August 2005), I can feel for the folks that were affected by the flooding. It will take quite a while to rebuild and get back to normal.

I called Colorado Parks & Wildlife and was hoping to be able to get even a partial refund on my tag ($845) but they said since it was an OTC tag, I could have gone to another OTC area and hunted there, so no refund. Even though there were mandatory evacuations and CP&W posted warnings about staying out of the affected areas. Oh well, that's my luck.
Stay safe my friend.

Bummer. That is such a nice area.
I don't think a river or stream along the border was normal.
Flows are down but water is just sitting on adobe ground.

Dotti has not found a mature tarantula yet. They are big and don't eff around.
Mostly young on the marches. 2".

Neighbor guide says elk everywhere. Scattered by lots of water. Yep.

Gotta quick shower unhitching trailer. Getting dark again
Wiring on winch fine...problem with winch, maybe reset?
We'll figure it out. Sr just called. He's in PHX getting semi loaded.
Jr is in their canyon bottom after a bull...no cell. Mid day??? Bull down?

Misty and dark. There would be snow if it was colder. 45.
