It's all about the "likes" . . .

Something thats never been super clear to me, what if you processed those possession limit birds into something like say sticks or pastrami, whatever. But are still in your freezer.
Possession limit doesn’t change even if you process the animal. I’m not sure how to calculate the birds per pound but I’m sure the game wardens have a standard.

Killing for content, taking irresponsibly long shots (even when they say they practice a lot and are such great shots), and wounding animals never to be found seems to be the name of the game on YouTube. It seems even more prevalent with the guys with less than 15,000 followers for some reason. Guess you gotta risk it for the biscuit or something.

Once more for those in the back.

Nailed it.

This guy's an idiot but entertaining. He'll get popped eventually and those federal migratory violations are likely more painful than upland bird violations.

He isn't any different than most posting hunting videos. So what's the fine for over the limit on waterfowl? And is that fine high enough to discourage this behavior? We all know the answer.
Since its federal migratory birds, its a pretty big deal compared to what a state individually would do. Google Tony Toye. He was busted for this exact thing along with others.

Didn't even lose hunting or guiding rights, just on the refuge, iirc.

On the possession limit thing…it depends on the state. Some states explicitly say processed birds count, others explicitly say processed birds don’t count. Others are very vague either way. Plus some have differences in what counts when you are traveling vs when you reach your home.

We get lots of questions about this, and usually tell people your best bet if you’re worried about it would be to ask a warden in the state you are hunting in and/or live in.

Neither here nor there, some of these are damn near impossible to enforce.

Thank you!

This is a pet peave of mine. I love looking through the comments on Facebook hunting groups when someone asks a law question at all the dumb answers. If you are uncertain of a law Why wouldn’t you ask the person writing a ticket verse some idiots on social media? At least here in Iowa there cell phone number is printed in the regulation book.

No but it destroyed his business and still had a heafty fine to pay. Im not positive if he ever came back to guide on the river or not but I know he had moved what he was doing to Missouri full time after this hit.

In all fairness, I actually hunted with him twice. Once on the river as a gift and then we booked with him in Missouri shortly after for snows in the spring and we experienced no shenanigans and a good experience.

My biggest worry regarding possession has always been how fun it could end up being explaining to an officer reviewing my freezer that some ducks are from WI, some from NM, some from CO all each having their own possession limit
Waterfowl limits are set at the Federal level. Individual States can have more restrictive limits but not less. If you are over the Federal limit you are in violation regardless of where the birds were shot. It brings up an interesting question on something like pheasants.

Most of the time possession charges are just added on to more serious violations because no one is going to go through the trouble of getting a search warrant for possession limit ticket.
