My younger boy put a doe down in the first hour of youth season. It was an interesting morning. I will get back with pics and the story after we get this girl in the freezer.

I thought that this is not a good start for the season but the radar said the storm was almost past. So now its time to head to the woods.
On the walk to the stand we decided that this was going to be a meat hunt. Shortly after shooting light we started getting hit with walnuts from above. As I look up a squirrel looks right down at me and starts chattering like I just broke into his house. As soon as he did that I heard the tell tale sound of a snort weeze coming from about thitry yards away. We couldn't see the deer but I told my boy that we just got busted because of the squirrel.
After we listened to the chatter for about 20 minutes I had enough. I was waving my arms and throwing sticks at Mr noisy trying to scare him away. After about 10 minutes of that he finally left. I thought good, no more looking like an idiot in the tree stand. 10 minutes later a doe walks out at 60 yards broadside. Devon asked me if I thought she was big enough and I thought she looked like she was a couple years old.
I told him to put her down. As I got my phone out and started to video he raised his muzzle loader and sent a round on its way. It was a perfect lung shot and she only ran about 80 yards and went down.
All in the first hour. We had her cut up and in the freezer that afternoon. I didn't want the hunt to be over so soon but it sure was fun the little time we had out there.

Great! I hope my son has as much good fortune this weekend. That'll make up into some good eats.
