I need shotgun advice

Thanks guys looking at the options now online and will probably hit the stores this week looking at the shotguns. Not in a super hurry but I also need to pick up a shotgun for the wife. She is left eye dominant so she shoots LH

I do not see a lh model but the Franchi compact looks interesting for her

My son has a LH Franchi. Other son has a Montefeltro. I shoot a Benelli Ultra Light.

I have heard good things about the franchi and debated looking at one primarily for geese. I like the beretta a400 but the $2700 price tag in Canada I can’t justify spending on a shotgun

I own and can recommend the A300 outlander in 12, the a400 excel in 12, new model montefeltro in 12, old model montefeltro in 20. The a300 has a reasonable price and is a very good gun. I think Midway has a camo 12 version for $599 right now. For a rough use shotgun it offers a lot. Mine has the basic black plastic stock. I use it for crappy weather, turkey and waterfowl. The others are nicer. Just depends on what you want. I like both gas and inertia. Both systems are reliable for the most part and each has their pros and cons. Benelli lowered the price on the m2's. People seem to be happy with those.

My turkey gun is a Maxus II in Browning vintage camo. I looked at a lot of shotguns before I bought the Maxus, my other shotguns I’ve purchased used but I wanted one nice one.

My Benelli M2 is a south paw gun. I shot right handed guns for about 40 years before I bought this LH Benelli. Right side ejection never bothered me but the awkward working the safety did. I’ve been told the safety can be switched for a left handed on the M2. I never figured that out.
You’ll be happier in the long run if you buy your wife a left handed gun. Next best would be a tang safety like the Mossberg.

So many choices.........brings budget and hunting quarry & style into the discussion for narrowing the field.

My 3 greatest passions for many years were waterfowl (decoyed), turkey and grouse. I shoot the same gun for waterfowl and turkey, albeit, with different barrels.

I love Benelli's, I have a SBE and 3 m1 Super 90's. Gotta say, the3 1/2" fodder was cool when it first came out, but if you are shooting your birds over decoys (cupped with feet down - 25-30 yds) there is no need for the additional shot.

Turkey hunting, I like a short barrel.

I have used a Remington 1187 synthetic for 30+ years; a 21" barrel for turkey, 26" for waterfowl and 21" rifled barrel for the hooved critters. I have less invested in the whole set up than i do in the SBE and shoot it just well. Just keep it clean, gas guns are a little more temperamental than inertia actions.

I have also handled the Mossberg 930's and am impressed with the handling and value as well.

Love the Italian guns, but, for waterfowl and turkey, utility and value really factor into the equation. Now, when talking uplands guns its a whole other discussion.

Good luck, can't go wrong with any of the products mentioned.

Had to drop the old 870 off at the gunsmith. The last few years it’s been bad for sticking fired shells. I tried and tried and couldn’t get it fixed so hopefully he can. Just need to get a pattern master choke for this new semi and I’ll be set

Never had much luck with patternmaster, Carlson performed much better for me. That's not to say they won't work for you though.

I have one in my old 870 and love that thing. Even use it for ground slapping ruffed grouse. Patterns so tight I can get the bottom of the pattern to hit the head and rest goes above

Thats good. That's how the carlsons is for me with hevi-metal #2's. Probably the same exact same thing with different name on it.

Looking to buy a new shotgun. I would like to find one that i could use for everything. I have a browning bps that I love but it is heavy and it is too nice to drag aroud turkey hunting or in the muddy fields chasing geese. I am leaning semi auto and 12 gauge. I will use it waterfowl hunting and turkey hunting and maybe a little upland but will probably still use the bps for that. Let me know what I should be looking at fellas

Merkel or Sauer 12 gauge side by side. Simple as pie. 6.5 lbs and elegant, tough, dependable. Everything you want in a do-it-all gun. Used market under $1k.
